TaDa Childcare loves Selfridge!

TaDa Childcare will now be converting from a full time child care to part time care ONLY. That's right, we are no longer open Monday-Friday. We will now be providing child care services to our service men and women who serve in the Michigan Air National Guard. As a former Staff Sergeant in the Air National Guard, I value the work and sacrifices of our Military so this is a great way for me and my business to give back to the 127th Wing. These services are available to any Selfridge Guardsmen during scheduled drill weekends. Military families already have so much going on from daily work tasks, military training, deployments and maintaining a healthy work-life balance. It is important that they have support to decrease stress and help them stay focused on the mission. I strive to give our military families the support they need by providing quality care for their children here at TaDa Childcare. If you are apart of the Selfridge Air National Guard, be sure to contact your Chain of Command or visit Family Readiness on guidance to sign up for drill weekend child care services. Also, follow TaDa Childcare on social media using the link underneath the photo.

Autism & Early Intervention

In today's society there is so much research being done and literature being published about different disabilities, birth defects and cognitive delays. We all have probably heard of Autism by now and may even know someone on the spectrum but do we really understand what that means? The first step to being supportive of autistic children and their parents is to do your own research.

Autism Spectrum Disorder is a developmental disability that can result in emotional, social and communication difficulties. People on the autism spectrum may interact, learn and behave differently from most people. This just means that the people around them need to have an understanding of their needs and be supportive of alternatives for them to communicate and learn in a way that's both comfortable and effective for them.

We have to meet others where they are opposed to forcing them to be like us. We are all different, with or without autism. If you're unsure of how to support an autistic child in your care, respectfully ask their parent(s)/guardian(s) what you can do to help. But the most helpful thing for a child diagnosed with autism is early intervention.

Early Intervention would include a thorough plan from the child's doctor, follow-up appointments with a team of specialists, and an Individualized Educational Plan(IEP) for teachers to better assist them in a way that's best for their particular learning style. Different states and counties have their on programs that provide support for parents to learn helpful techniques to prevent stress, depression and anxiety and help the children to learn, speak, play and live like other children.

Early Intervention and support is detrimental to all children with any disability, birth defect or delay of any kind. It takes a village to help our children succeed so start today by knowing a little more so you can to be apart of someone's support system!

Why is Reading Fundamental for children??

Reading is fundamental!

We've all heard that saying before. Not only does reading to children help with building vocabulary, it also aids in focus, concentration and communication. When children hear parents and teachers read, it helps them with phonetic sounds, learn new words and stimulates their imagination. They may ponder over themes and characters from the books you read to them for days. This will spark new ideas and curiosities so be ready for them to ask lots of questions both related and unrelated to the stories you read to them. Books open new worlds. Read and explore with your babies!! 📖

Early Bilingualism in Young Children

Children learn language much easier in their early years, but what about more than one language?

Yes, it is very possible for children to learn two or more languages simultaneously. In fact, it's best for them to be biliterate or even multiliterate. This means having the ability to read and write in two or more languages. Sometimes they may mix the two languages in the beginning stages of learning how to speak because they are too young to distinguish the two as two separate languages but they will have the ability to communicate affectively using both.

Young bilingual children will have higher levels of cognitive, social, emotional development compared to their monolingual counterparts. In turn, they will be more likely to succeed academically and go on to have better job options, function better in the global society and receive information from more places and resources than monolinguals.

Teachers and Parents can foster a child's interest in language learning by having books in their target language (language they are learning), cultual clothing of the country in which the language is spoken, preparing cultural dishes, learning new words and phrases with the child and watch children's' shows in that language. There are many things that can facilitate language learning.

I highly recommend the bilingual book title Marta! Big & Small by Jen Arena for starters.

Hands-on Shapes!

Flash cards can get a bit boring. Especially for little ones! Here's a cool, hands-on approach to learning shapes. Try using different shaped wooden blocks. They can build with them, trace them, use them to make imprints in playdough or just discuss how many sides they have. There are so many ways for children to learn besides boring worksheets and flash cards. Hands-on learning through play is the way to go to make learning fun!!
