Animals and children

We went on a field trip last week to interact with reptiles! The children seemed to really enjoy being able to see and hold the Animals that we've been learning about in class. Animals can help children develop empathy, compassion, and positive feelings about themselves. Children can also learn to be patient, resilient, kind, and forgiving. Children with autism spectrum disorders may also be calmer and have better social interactions when playing with animals. Animals can teach children about life, including reproduction, birth, illnesses, accidents, death, and bereavement. They can also be a child's first experience with loss and grief. Young children can learn responsibility by helping to care for their pets (feeding and walking them).

Keep them talking 🗣️

Language proficiency in children has a direct impact on their overall development and serves as a reliable indicator of their future academic success. As their speaking and listening abilities evolve, children establish a foundation for literacy and develop the capacity to interpret both visual and verbal signs, paving the way for reading and writing skills. Keep them talking. You'd be surprised at the things young children know just from a simple conversation. 🗣️

The joys of art! 🎨

Art increases children's creativity, communication, dexterity, and is very calming for them too. Drawing and painting are both fine motor skills because the grip if the pencil, crayon, paint brush, etc. Now when painting, children often like to mix colors which can be considered a science lesson as well as art. Try talking with the children about what they're creating, the colors they are using and even the shapes being used to create their masterpiece to get them thinking and speaking (cognitive and speech development). One activity could very well be categorized into several learning areas!
