We went on a field trip last week to interact with reptiles! The children seemed to really enjoy being able to see and hold the Animals that we've been learning about in class. Animals can help children develop empathy, compassion, and positive feelings about themselves. Children can also learn to be patient, resilient, kind, and forgiving. Children with autism spectrum disorders may also be calmer and have better social interactions when playing with animals. Animals can teach children about life, including reproduction, birth, illnesses, accidents, death, and bereavement. They can also be a child's first experience with loss and grief. Young children can learn responsibility by helping to care for their pets (feeding and walking them).
